INTEGRATED RESEARCH PROGRAMME:
William Carey University will offer an Integrated Research Programme to a selected number of its Masters Degree holders for duration of 12
months. Selection will be based on the ability of the candidate to do mentored research on topics approved by the Research Committee. The research project will
generally cover issues related to development, environment, education, health, economics, sociology etc. Priority is given to research that breaks new ground and
relates research to the developmental needs of a given community. Successful researchers will have opportunities to pursue a higher level integrated Ph.D
research at WCU or may find employment in WCU/Grace City Joint venture.
OUTCOMES:
The outcomes of the programme are:
- The researchers are grounded in an integrated philosophy of education.
- The researchers have analytical and critical skills that address people’s real needs and have the ability to relate theories and concepts to the
social, economic, health, educational and developmental issues in the society.
- The researchers involve in the actual life of the people and seek viable solutions to issues by liaising between the Government Departments, NGOs,
Corporate and the community.
- The researchers present a well-researched document based on international standards that can be published in journals or as research monographs by WCU.
OBJECTIVES:
- The researchers will be given an orientation and trained in the integrated approach to research.
- The researchers will engage in critical appraisal of the socio-economic, educational and developmental realities, issues and needs of the people of
Meghalaya in general and a given community in particular.
- The researchers will engage with Government departments, NGOs, and corporates in providing basic and specialized services for development and establish
links with people that will ensure and enhance their effectiveness.
- The researchers will work under continued mentorship of professors from WCU, submit monthly progress reports, present seminar papers every four months
and prepare well-documented, publishable project reports at the end of the contract period.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
- The 12-month mentored IRP is open only to WCU graduates.
- The researcher will present a detailed research proposal in consultation with a prospective mentor from WCU. WCU will assign a suitable mentor to each
researcher. A period of 20 days will be given to submit research proposals and synopsis. A need assessment and/or base line survey should be submitted before
commencement of the research.
- Every researcher will utilize the integrated approach to research.
- The research proposal needs to be approved by the WCU Research Committee.
- The researcher will submit a written progress report every month.
- The researchers will work under continued mentorship of professors from WCU, present seminar papers every four months and prepare well-documented,
publishable project reports at the end of the contract period.
- The research grant payable to every researcher is worth Rs.50000/. On successful completion of and submission of monthly progress report, the researcher
will be given Rs. 4000/ at the end of each month for eleven months and Rs. 6000/ at the end of the twelfth month after the submission of the final research
project.
- All related expenses incurred such as travel, food and stationary will be the responsibility of the researcher.
- The Integrated Research Programmes contract will be terminated at any time during the year if a researcher does not make progress and does not follow the
guidelines of the WCU Research Committee. WCU will be the final authority on any premature termination of research project contract.
